The Toronto Geological Discussion Group (TGDG) is pleased to announce the upcoming three-day workshop ‘Advanced Geostatistics for Resource Estimation’ from 25 to 27 November 2024, presented by Professor Clayton Deutsch in downtown Toronto. Professor Deutsch is a leading expert in the field of geostatistics and an experienced lecturer – we are delighted about the opportunity to offer this workshop to our community of geologists.
Short course content
The short course consists of three days of lectures, presented in-person. Appropriate time for Q&A will be allocated. Following the in-person component of the course, attendees will have the opportunity to apply the acquired knowledge in self-paced online exercises. This short course qualifies for the professional development requirements of professional geoscientists associations, such as PGO.
In-person lectures
- Prerequisites, including variography
- Best practice resource modeling with Ordinary Kriging
- Best practice resource modeling with Sequential Gaussian Simulation (SGS)
- Resource modeling with Multiple Indicator Kriging (MIK) and Localized Uniform Conditioning (LUC)
- How to perform a drill hole spacing study to support classification
- How to build a geo-metallurgical model
Exercises
A set of self-paced online tutorials and exercises using a trial version of the Python-based Resource Modeling Solutions software will be available to attendees until the end of February 2025. The exercises will cover the techniques and concepts covered in the lectures. Worked solutions will be provided.
