Henrik Thalenhorst, Senior Geologist, Strathcona Mineral Services Limited

Speaker Bio:

Mr. Thalenhorst graduated in 1968 from Munich (Germany) University as an economic geologist. His early career (1968 to 1975) was spent in mineral exploration and mine operating activities in Quebec and Yukon.  The following 10 years included project evaluations and technical supervision of exploration joint-ventures, mostly in North America, for Metallgesellschaft, based in their Toronto office.

Since joining Strathcona in 1986, Mr. Thalenhorst's work has focused on performing many audits of resources and reserves, and reviewing both base and precious metals projects. The audits and reviews were mainly conducted for mining companies that owned or were interested in acquiring projects, and occasionally for financial institutions. Since 1986, He has participated in 12 bulk sampling programs, involving their design, execution and evaluation.

Talk Abstract:

The bulk sampling presentation reflects experience gained by Mr. Thalenhorst for over more than 20 years, with focus on why, how, where, and when to take and treat bulk samples. Several examples will be included to demonstrate the very useful information that bulk sampling provides, including improved understanding of the project geology for stope-sized tonnages, testing of grade-control sampling protocols, verification of resource grade and tonnage predictions, and conduct of drill-hole spacing studies.
