Taronish Pithawala, Customer Success Manager - Geophysical Modelling, Geosoft Inc.
This presentation explains how geological insights can be incorporated into 3D geophysical inversion modelling. The aim of the presentation is to help viewers improve conversations between geologists and geophysicists when it comes to earth modelling. Viewers will leave with enough background information on Tikhonov regularised inversion to understand the fundamental assumptions that go into an “unconstrained” 3D geophysical inversion. They will then see how geological insight, given to the geophysicist through simple, meaningful conversations, can impact the results and interpretation of an inversion model. Finally, we will review what happens when assumptions that go into a constrained model are inconsistent with the input data and how to tell when it is time to reconsider what we think we know.
Speaker Bio:
Taronish Pithawala was born and raised in Toronto. He attended the University of Toronto where he earned his M.Sc. in Planetary Science studying Mars’ core-mantle composition using viscoelastic models of tidal forcing. Taronish’s interest in mineral exploration sparked during a summer-student position where he worked in Canada’s arctic collecting magnetic field measurements and mapping surface geology. Since then Taronish has travelled around the world to work with geologists, geochemists, and geophysicists in an exploration context, and in his various roles at Geosoft Inc. Lately, Taronish has been focussed on helping geoscientists integrate techniques, like geophysical inversion and geological modelling, into a complete workflow in order to better understand the subsurface.
